so you'll notice we're starting off here in the Discord Channel. We have all of the templates that you can use to build out your course inside of the Creator. Resource is channel in discord. So if you select create a resource is on the left side. You'll see if he scrolled out a little bit all of the documents, all the helpful information to help you build on him. A better course for students.

That's all we have to do is select the syllabus template, which I've already selected and launched here. Now, a couple ways you could do this. You can either download like a word version of this toe edit, or you can also just make a copy of it for our purposes. I'm just gonna go ahead and make a copy of this particular syllabus,

and I'm actually just gonna leave the title. There is copy of the syllabus template. Um, what you could do is you could name it your course name if you want. You can also leave it as this it doesn't really matter too much. The most important thing is, once you are done with the syllabus, just change the name of it. However you save it Ah, and change the name of it and then upload that into the folder. So it's got the correct name on it.

first things first, What is the title of my core? So I should already know this or have a general idea of what that might be s o as an example. If I'm teaching like basic networking, that might actually be the name of my courses. Basic networking, right? Ah, if I'm teaching penetration testing, as you

probably already know, I have a course on the site called penetration testing unethical hacking.

So you just kind of play with the title to make it something relevant. So that way, as a student is looking for a certain subject, they'll find your course.

So don't put it like super frantic Eliska SPL negotiates or whatever right from that movie, don't put a long title like that, that doesn't make any sense. But put something like basic networking, networking fundamentals, something like that to tell people that Hey, this is a networking course

for our purposes. We're just gonna do it on a Would you say it's a penetration testing course. And this is not an actual course that we're building in this video, but wouldn't say penetration testing fundamentals.

Now, you could put your name here instructor website. So your contact information, if you want. Um, I don't ever actually do that for my courses, But you're welcome to see what has put my name there, Of course, creation date. I normally wait on that. Ah, and that's just for me. Because when I create courses, I normally doing pretty quickly s o. A lot of times that will change from my estimates.

So the course description. This is where you should be writing an overview overview of the course. So

here we show 250 words minimum, and that is ideal. When you're making a first pass, though, it's your syllabus. I don't want you to get hung up on the course description and not do anything else, and that does hang up a lot of people. So initially, what I want you to do is just put sort of a brief overview of what is what is this course about?

And then you could expand upon that to hit that 250 word minimum.

But again, this course syllabus creation should not hold up. You actually producing your course? That's not the intent of this. This is more of sort of a reference guide for you to go through and keep you on track as you go building your course.

And then, of course, this syllabus will be used for students so they can read about the description of the course and then figure out of this course is actually for them and no sort of how they're actually going through the course.

If I'm gonna use certain terminology, I can either number one, have a glossary and talk about the terminology throughout the course and all that stuff. Or I can just say, Hey, you need a basic understanding of networking, right? You need to understanding of programming. You needed a basic understanding of malware threats. Whatever the case might be, those would be my prerequisites. Right. So, um, we'll say basic networking.

So study resource is, and again prerequisite. Just let's not anything they might need. This will also be what you talk about in your introduction video. basic malware concepts, right? So things like that just kind of generalized things that somebody should be able to know. What? The end of the course now, what you need to do is you need to make sure that these course goals can actually be something attainable, right? So if I said that students will be able to reverse engineer malware after this basic pen testing course,

mostly that's not relevant to this particular type of topics. So make sure it's stuff that they can actually learn in the course

Basically, whatever the overall concept is, right, so usually module one for me. My course is gonna be introduction. You don't have to do some fancy title. This introduction tells people what that actually is. Ah, and so that might consist of a naming. Now, one thing I don't do on my syllabus I don't do duration and minutes because I usually don't know that till after I fill my course videos.

You can try to estimate that. But

what I found was that put you in like, a little box and you can't get out of that. And it's hard to film your course of that point. And that's where I see a lot of instructors making that mistake. So don't worry about putting duration in minutes. That's not really relevant.

Um, and it's not really something you can really realistically track until you've actually filmed the videos. So just put the actual topics that's that's more important of each video. So introduction this might be like, What is pen testing? Right.

Ah, I don't know determining scope, right? You know, because if you don't know what you're testing, then you could end up like a lot of people and go to jail. So just basic things like that, right? And maybe this one is on, um,

the whole re kon aspect Rights will call this re kon, and we'll talk about oh sent and all that stuff in there. This one, You know, maybe something, scanning et cetera. And then don't feel like you're limited to three modules. You just copy and paste it.

And then you can build on more modules for the course. Just adjust all these to, you know, be module for whatever.

So that's all we're doing here with syllabus. It's really just kind of that that realistically, it's a rough outline of your course. This is a fluid thing. However, you want to make sure that you've got something on paper for us to take a look at and kind of say, yeah, that looks good, but you can change things as you go out through the course and just keep everyone abreast of that as you're going through it.
