Hi, guys. Welcome to do make projects Project Tool Gates. I'm Catherine Nick Iver, and today we're going to go over the purpose of a lean six sigma tollgate in a project.
So if you remember back to her introduction to do make you remember that the domestic model is comprised of the five phases defined measure analyzed, improve and control. Now, while this isn't the only project model that has phases lean six Sigma projects are very susceptible to being
having those phases performed out of order
because it has longer ramifications. So, for example, if you don't fully complete your problem stigma in your defined phase but then you try to move to do a measure, you may find that you are not measuring information
that relates back to your problem statement and thus will have to go back and perform project rework.
So in order to counter balance that lean six sigma has more, more structured project toll gates and they're called told Gates, because you have to have these items before you can pass, go and collect your $200. It is much more detailed than, uh,
milestone review, which is something that you may see in a project management methodology
where these air the things that we said We're going to Dubai This timing we are on tracker off track. The reason why we try to stay away from
miles down reviews per se in Lean six Sigma is because while we can have some estimates of how much time it's going to take, once you start getting into the project, you may discover that you need to change your data collection methodology or that you're not getting the amount of data that you need to do a really robust analysis.
Or perhaps that your initial solution, as you piloted it, didn't get the outcomes that the project needs to be released successful.
So we lean. Six Sigma doesn't tend to have hard and firm dates like we're gonna have defying done by this date, which is is where the toll gates are more are different than a milestone review.
Whole gates tended to be focused rather on activities that have happened
with the Latin within this space in the project,
so we want toll gates for two reasons. One our sponsors need to be engaged in unlined and if you remember from our previous module. When we're talking about our stakeholders structure
under a domestic project, the team is empowered by the sponsors authorities. So what that means is the sponsor needs to know what's going on with the project and how the team is using their authority. So that's part number one, and part number two is for that project discipline. So if you remember
way back to the beginning, we talked about one of the strengths and
lean six Sigma is that has a very rigorous discipline towards getting to these sustainable improvements. In order to get there, the tasks do need to be performed in order. So this is a little bit different if you think back to our quick hits and the P. D. C. A model, the PDC. A model does have a sequential model,
but there is a little bit more fluidity
as you're moving between phases and PTSD. A. Within the Domecq model because it is so structured, there is less fluid ity.
So as we talk about Project Tool gates and as we're looking forward into this course a CZ, we wrap up each of the modules that our associate ID with the phases of demand project. My last module for you will be the tool gates. From your perspective,
these are conversations that you are
project facilitator your lean six sigma of practitioner are goingto have with the sponsor. But it's important for you guys to be aware of them so that you know what is considered finished and what is still outstanding. A cz faras Why we do told Gates. We want to make sure that we stay
progressing in that structured fashion so we don't lose the robustness of the domestic model
and we want to make sure that we keep
our sponsor engaged. But even more specifically than engaged, we want to make sure that our sponsor is aligned with the work that we're doing. You don't want to be into your improve things and have your sponsor come back and say, Well, this isn't what I was thinking you guys were going to do. So
this wraps up the over our king, um, administrative parts of the DM AIC project and our next module is going to start us on our defying phase
