Hi, guys. Welcome to Quick Hits Introduction to Do Make. I'm Catherine MacGyver. And today are learning objectives are an awareness of the domestic process improvement model, an awareness of the phases within the model.
So I'm just going to say up front that this is going to feel a little out of order. A good chunk of the rest of the course is going to focus in depth on domestic. So what are the tools? How is it done? What we look for? That being said right now we're focused on quick hits.
I wanted to go over the introduction to do make with you
to give you some context. As we've been through the course up to this point, I've mentioned phases. I've talked about control I've talked about define. I wanted to help paint the picture for you and to give you a point of reference when we're talking about what is a domestic versus what is a quick hit, which is our next module.
So what is domestic? It's an acronym.
Obviously, um, it is the lean six Sigma project methodology. So if you remember back Thio, our, um, definition of lean and six sigma and I talked about how lean doesn't have a project methodology, but six Sigma does the d make is that framework.
It provides a structured framework to ensure that your improvement projects are clearly defined. So we know what problem we're solving and why we're doing the work
implemented. So we don't end up with the zombie projects that drive on and on and on and never get closure and that the results are verified so that we did in fact solve the problem that we said we're going to have solved. So if you think about this scenario, because I experiences in the workplace and I'm sure everybody has
where you have this great idea like this is so great
that we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna do it. But we don't know what problem it's solving,
that's cool. So we do it and we implement it, and then we come back a few months later, more like Well, hey, why would we do that? Well, because we don't know what problem we're solving. We can't really verify if we did or we didn't sold it. The domestic framework
exists to prevent this. It also is very helpful in clear and concise communication, not only with your stakeholders, your sponsor, but with your organization at large. Why are we taking the time to work on this? To make it gives us a structure. It also allows us to communicate where we're at and what we're working on.
Inconsistent language.
So we talk about domestic and that acronym. It stands for it to find, measure, analyze, improve and control. This is foundational knowledge for Lean and six Sigmund. So you're gonna want to take note.
You're probably going to know at the end of this course exactly what these mean, because we're gonna spend a huge amount of time drilling
deeply into this. I want to talk about right now. This
model is cyclical. So you started defying you go through measure analyzing proven control. This is to make within your organization. So once you guys complete the control phase of your project and you transition to your process owner, your organization is going to start over again
at define, and we're going to do this all over.
This is that culture of continuous improvement that we've been talking about from a lean principles perspective. However, when you actually get into the DM AIC project. It is very linear. You will have step defined to go to step measure, go to step analyzed and it will be done
so important to remember this is within the context of your organization.
And this *** AIC is the actual project itself.
So without going into too much depth, this is Dominican and nutshell. So when we talk about the defying phase while we're talking about is establishing the project, informing the team defining the problem. What is it we're trying to solve, identifying the customers and they're critical to quality requirements.
So that sai pock tool that we went over in
what is a process? We're gonna identify our customers and we're going to capture their requirements were going to scope the project. So where do we start and where do we end? What is the process that we're allowed to influence under our sponsors authority?
Once we complete, those were gonna move to measure the measure phases where we are collecting our baseline data were developing a data collection plan and we're drafting our current state process. Map measure is all about what's happening today.
This is a very crucial phase Because what we devise is our data collection plan
is what we're going to use when we get to our improving our control to say whether or not we did fix that problem as defined in the define phase.
Analyze. This is where people think about Lean and six Sigma. If you think about like all the statistical tools and all those super cool things that we do, they're gonna be in the analyzed face. So this is where we're going to do root cause analysis. This is where we're gonna identify areas for improvement. We're going to start doing hypothesis testing.

Why? So that those were all show up. This is where you start picturing this very stereotypic. Um, lean six Sigma people. You got the bobs from the office space again that they live in here
Improve. This is my favorite phase. This is why I stayed in Lean Six Sigma and got my Master Blackwell. This is where we select solutions. We're going to do our future state process mapping. So we've identified areas for improvement and analyzed, and now we're gonna divide. We're gonna design those solutions.
We're gonna pilot. Hm is Well,
um, And then when we get to control, we're gonna develop a control plan. And what this means is a way of knowing how the process is going to stay improved. As we move forward, we're gonna have full process implementation, because remember and improve, we just piloted. Now we're going to do it everywhere because we know that we've worked the bugs out
and this is the keep up the good work. We're gonna give this new and improved process
to the process. Owner.
Those are the five phases of domestic in a very high level nut show.
Um, and as we go through domestic, it's important to remember it is a foundational concept and lean six sigma. It is, well, really the concept because it's our project frameworks of similar to a waterfall or scream or agile. This is how we get stuff done within the methodology. The
importance in A is that we want to make sure that our projects
me objectives. So we know what the objective is. We know that we're going to actually do the things that we say we're going to do to improve it, and then we go back and we measure and we say we did in fact meet those objectives. So again, keep in mind it's cyclical within the organization. Once we finish our control phase,
we're going to want to start another project. So we always have this in this ongoing it oration, because we're
seeking perfection as one of Arlene principles. But within the project itself, it is linear. So a project team is developed and you go through transitioning to your process owner, and that project is done unless you need to revisit it
