this is less than $11.1 printer technologies, and this is part three. We're going to continue on our journey through printer technologies, and today we're gonna be speaking on the laser printer, so let's go and get started. So our objectives for this lesson is we're going to talk about laser printers in detail.
We're going to go over all the key components in everything that you need to know for the camp TIA
A plus as well as in the real world. When you may come into a situation to trouble shoot a laser printer. So you want to get these key concepts under your belt so you'll know how to troubleshoot and you'll recognize these key components.
So we're gonna start off with the imaging trump, and we're going to go through the Fuser assembly that transfer built and transfer roller the pickup rollers, the separate paths and the duplex sing a simile. Then we're going to jump into the imaging process, and we're gonna look at that from start to finish.
The imaging process includes the processing, the charging, the exposing, developing,
transferring, fusing and cleaning. And as we come to this, you'll get these in more detail again, we're gonna go from beginning to the end of the entire imaging process So you don't understand the duties of a laser printer and how it does that.
So we have a lot of information. So let's go and get started in this lesson.
The laser printer. The laser printers, one of the most advanced technologies in the line of pretty technology. Now there is a complex combination of technologies and components working together to produce high quality images at a fast on printing speeds. Now again, the laser printer is gonna be found on your high end scenarios off
in court, corporate or
commercial situations or businesses, as well as even higher end home offices. There's a lot of complexities and and technologies inside laser printers, so, therefore, that makes them to be generally more expensive than a traditional printer. And they do a lot more, and they have a lot of key components. One of those key components is memory
memories found in laser printers, where is not found, and other printers.
It's because images are stored in memory and being processed before the printing job. So that's when one component ray there that drives the cost up as well as the name on Gives Ways. Laser. It uses lasers for the imaging process, so these and other components make this unit
one of the general more expensive side.
Um, keynotes to remember is high quality images, fast putting speeds and, like we mentioned, expensive do two components
imaging drone. The emerging from is a core piece of the laser printer. Its job is to transfer images from itself to the paper.
The image is drawn from a laser on the drum right on the drum. It picks up the toner and transfers to the paper. The image of drunken down be a separate part from the toner cartridge. Or it could be all in one on some units in some particular models,
the image of drum is with the toner cartridge all in one unit.
Or it could be separate again, depending on the model that you're looking at in depending in what you're working on.
And that image room is also photosensitive, and it needs to be protected.
The Fuser simply another key component here, the Fuser assemblies job is to heat the toner and melted to the page to create a permanent bond. It works by heat and pressure. It is the length of the paper to cover the entire page as it runs through. What this means is when that page comes through to the Fuser assembly,
the the entire page with it covers the entire page with because it doesn't need to make most passes
and makes one pass going through diffuser, and it's melting that toner and bonding it to the paper. That's its job.
The Fuser assembly reaches high temperature, so caution should be used when trouble shooting and removing paper jams. Another interesting thing to note here is when you print a page to a laser printer, and when you retrieve that page, you'll notice that it's warm. It's because it's just come through the fuse assembly, and it's still warm from that process.
Transfer built on roller now cause color. Laser printers have a different process for transferring images to the page. Four colors are and used in these units. Those colors are scion yellow, magenta and black.
Now there's also four separate toner cartridges. Now those four separate toner cartridges each combine those colors onto the transfer. Built Images are transferred to a single transfer built then to a single transfer roller. Those colors are then transferred to the page,
so the process here is a little bit different than the black and white laser printers.
Where again we're using four separate toner cartridges, blending your colors onto the transfer built into the roller and then to the page
pickup rollers. Ah, small but very key. An important component of two laser printers is designed to pick up a single sheet of paper and feed it through the printing process. Now, if problems occur like there's no sheets being picked up or multiple sheets being picked up, chances are it could be a problem with the pickup. Roller
or jams will occur when this is not working correctly. When is putting in multiple sheets
when performing maintenance on maintenance on your unit? Thes should be clean or replace very inexpensive and very easy to replace pickup rollers. When inspector should not be dirty or warn, and there is a picture of the pickup rolling right there and you can see it's relatively clean and has grooves to help pick up that paper
separation pad. Another small but key component to the laser printing process is designed to pull the top sheet off the paper trail.
It works in conjunction with the pickup roller, and it's fixed to the paper trade self small and inexpensive to replace. And again. This also should be easy to clean and check for where and when you're doing your routine maintenance. Check for if it's warm or dirty, clean it or replace if need be
the duplex ing assembly Very important part, depending on the particular model that you have. Printers. Jim Lee generally print on one side of the paper. Duplex ing is the capability of printing on both sides of the paper. Printers will print one side at a time, so the duplex ING assembly could be a separate attachment
built in Tudor printer. Or it could be a special pressure paper tray
that handles this function
here. On this image, we have ah couple pictures off different type of duplex ing scenarios. Here we have one printer that is a paper trips of sorts and has the duplex ing built right into that, whereas some maybe an attachment. That's the other image on the far right.
That is an attachment that you may purchase
and connect to your printer,
depending on the laser printer in that particular model, you have to check your manufacturers information. As far as how duplex ing is conducted within that machine, it may be built right inside the unit.
The duplex ING assembly could like it would be a separate attachment built into the printer or pepper tray
of the unit will flip the paper and to print on both sides. And you'll know when the duplex ing is working is because when you send a print job through, you'll hear that page print and it may either come out or go back in and you can hear it flip, then print again before it's finally finished. And that's how duplex ng work and laser printer.
So we talked about the parts here to the laser printer. So let's look at the entire imaging process. We're gonna look at it two ways we're gonna look at this way, and then we're gonna look at it in the diagram. Wait and see how it works when it's actually functioning.
So the image process. First we start off with the processing. The processing is sending the data to the printer. You're at your computer and you said a print job to the laser printer. It's sending it, and it's in prison memory and its processing. That job key important thing to note here is
a laser printer
will have to print the entire page all at once. It doesn't begin the printing process until all the data is collected for that job. Then it begins the printing process. It doesn't begin the printing process with half the page. It begins with a full page on the footprint job. So that's a key thing to remember about laser printers.
the second step is the primary corner. Reier charm charges the drum 600 to 1000 votes, so there is a wire that charges the drum and gets that ready. Now the corner wire has found an older copiers and order printers in New Orleans is a roller, a charge roller,
so that's step two. As far as the charging process,
Step three is a laser scans or paints the drum with an image anywhere. The laser touch is the drum causes the electrical charge to drain off.
The next step is developing. Negatively charged toner particles are allowed to attach to the painted area of the drum as the negative charge has been drained off these areas,
transferring the transfer of a corner where charges the paper with a positive charge from behind that negatively charged toner jumps to the positive paper according to the image on the drum, a static charge eliminator then removes the residual charge.
Fusing the toner particles are attached to the paper are fused, are melted to the paper, usually with the heated drum
and finally cleaning the drum is clean of excessive toner and electrical charges.
So let's look at this again. We're gonna look at it from a diagram of you. This is a cutaway of, uh, the photosynthesis drum in all the key components were gonna step through from beginning to end to see how this works. Okay, the processing,
the processing of the first step in this overall process of the image process.
So again, you're at your computer and you send the print job to the laser printer. The processing is gathering that information and processing and in memory. There's nothing moving in the laser print out this time. No moving parts. It's all processing. Getting ready to start the print job
the second step is charging the photo sensitive drum with negative ions. The entire drum will be charged getting this ready to for the next step. The next step in this process is the exposing. Since the photo sense of now is a clean and clear slate, the exposing is going to start
the exposing is the laser writing on the drum of the image that it wants to print out.
So this is the exposing piece.
Step forward. The developing step in this process where the toner is actually being a fixed to the photo censuses drum. Now the toner because of the drum, is already negative charged. When the toner has got fixed to the drum, it will be affixed to the places where the laser did not print
eso every place that it did not print. That's where the toner will be a fixed too.
Adhering to those neg, Lou charged ions.
And the next step is the transferring process. Now the transferring process is the process where this toner is actually being transferred to the paper. This is where the photo, since the drum is turning in, transferring again to the paper and the next step from there is the fusing.
Since that image has been transferred to the paper,
defusing is began to make that bomb permanent again, with heat and pressure going through the Fuser assembly.
And we have one final step in this process, and that is the cleaning process. The cleaning process is removing the leftover and residual toner that's on. Foo senses his drum, getting it ready for the new in the next process of the printing job.
And here you have all the steps again, starting with the processing is building the entire page in memory of the two, charging preparing the drum with negative electrostatic charge. Number three is exposing writing the image with a laser and number four developing, adding negative charged toner to the drum
transferring, moving the toner from the drum to the paper
and six fusing. Remember heat and pressure that Fuser assembly is bonding than image to the paper, and number six skinny seven is cleaning, removing excessive toner from the drum to get it ready for the next print job.
And there you have it.
Today's lesson. We went over laser printers in detail. We spoke about the image of Drum and all the other associated parts with the imaging drum, as well as the image process itself and all the pieces off the image process stepping through from beginning to end. The entire imaging process.
The imaging process, will notes, would be included with this lesson because as a key concept that you'll need to know for the company A plus.
So that is it for this lesson, and we will see you in the next lesson.
