Importance of the Project Charter:

There are two processes involved in the project initiation phase: development of the Project Charter and development of the Preliminary Project Scope Statement. The project charter is the first official document created. It contains a comprehensive description of the project. Once the project charter is approved, the project is then considered authorized.
The absence of a project charter is something that should concern the project manager.

The project charter is authorized by the stakeholders and then assigned to a project manager. With the framework and deliverables prepared, the project manager appropriates the resources. Once this is completed, the foundation to begin the work is in place.

Table 1 illustrates the inputs and the tools and techniques that are utilized for creating a project charter.
