Static Routing, Dynamic Routing and Default Routing:


  • Routers can be configured to route traffic based on static routes that have to be manually entered by an administrator
    • Static routing is a good choice for networks that: never change, are small in size or have only one router, or have only one way out of the network.
    • Topology change requires manual update
  • Default Routes
    • R1(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 <next hop router IP address>
    • R1(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 <exit interface>
