Welcome to the Security Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations (NIST SP 800-53a) Certification Course
NIST SP 800-53 (Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations) provides a broad listing of precise security controls for all U.S. federal information systems, except those related to national security. With greater emphasis on technology to improve intra-agency and inter-agency collaboration as specified in current FISMA compliance guidelines, the Federal Government is placing an intensified sense of urgency on real-time situational awareness for efficiency improvement and effectiveness of responses to security threats. The Security Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations Skill Certification Course deep dives into the process of selecting and implementing a subset of controls that information systems under development are expected to be compliant upon deployment. This process includes selecting an initial set of baseline security controls, prior to the security analysts and system owners beginning to analyze, tailor, and supplement them based on an organizational risk assessment. The scope of the security rules expands across 17 areas including access control, incident response, business continuity, and disaster recoverability.
