XOR (Exclusive or) is an operation that outputs “true” only when inputs differ from one another. In the lesson above, Timber goes over the XOR “truth table” which explains this concept.

In cryptography, XOR is an additive cipher (an encryption algorithm) that operates following a set of principles. Text strings can be encrypted by applying the bitwise XOR operator to every character using a given key. This key is necessary to decrypt the output as well by reapplying the XOR function with it so that the cipher is removed.

More information about XOR can be found here.

  1. Wow. Just like that? Interesting stuff. It is indeed very logical, and I might possibly be able to grasp this, when the time comes for me to explore this. Thanks.

I was going to look up “Caepher” just for fun, but thought I might instead save it as a new word for the Oxford Dictionary to store indefinitely, by pretending it means something it doesn’t…actually, that is what Caepher can mean…
Caepher: a word said to mean something that it doesn’t (I wonder if the thesaurus has any synonyms).

Thanks for the information. It is great to see that my journey will be an enjoyable one, and based on logic. Much appreciated, and enjoyed the presentation Timber.

  2. thanks Sir, very good info
