NotepadLinux (part 2) Kali Linux Commands

ls -a shows hidden directories – directories can be hidden by adding a dot (.) to the folder name.  Ex:  .donsfolder

cd / changes directory to the root directory

cd .. changes directory to the parent directory

cd ../../ goes up two parent directories.  etc.

adduser [username] to add a user

adduser [username] sudo – adds that user to sudo group


NotepadLinux (part 3) – Directories, myfile and Nano

cp – copy

mv – move

echo – prints output to screen. 

echo [output] > myfile .  Writes the output to the file.

Use >> to append.  Otherwise doing echo [output] > myfile again will overwrite. 


NotepadLinux (part 4) chmod, manipulation and packages

chmod – change file permissions.  0 is no permissions, 7 is full.  Binary notation.


NotepadLinux (part 5) IP Addressing and netcat

netcat – can be used to open connections on ports
