Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

-outsourcing the infrastructure of a Network

-infrastructure in maintained on the internet or by thid party companies

Platform as a Service(PaaS)

-allows a company to have application deployment

-tools and programming languages are available to the customer via the cloud form a third party

-development tools

Software as a Service(SaaS)

-on-demand software applications

-can be accessed from a thin client over the Internet

-Web browser based items,gmail is an example of SaaS

Database as a Service(DBaaS)

-Cloud providers offer database functionality to the consumers

Communications as a Service(CaaS)

-Communication services leased to the consumer from the provider

Example:VPN,VOIP,PBX,SKYPE

Business as a Service(BPaaS)

-Business Service delivered utilizing the cloud

-Combines business process management(BPM) with one or more aspects of a cloud deployment model

-Business process are uploaded to a cloud service for processing and monitoring

Anything as a Service(XaaS)

-Works in combinations with SAAS,IAAS,PAAS,CAAS,DBAAS,BPASS

-x is the variable that is interchangeable and represents different cloud services

Accountability and Responsibility by Service Model

Who does the model apply to?

-SaaS=End Users

-PaaS=Developers

-IaaS=Administrator

 

Who is responsible?

-SaaS=Provider

-PaaS=Consumer

-IaaS=Consumer

 

Cloud Delivery Models and Sevices

-Private Cloud

private cloud is similar to the Intranet

Protected by a firewall and unaccessible to the public

Public Cloud

Leased from a cloud provider to the customer

Pool of resources that a provider will lease

Can offer a Pay-as-you-go

Pool

-Hybrid Cloud

Uses a combination of private and public cloud

-Community Cloud

Infrastructure shared with several organizations

-On-Premise

Traditional data center management

Virtualized servers hosted on-site

Organization has complete control over its servers

Organization is responsibile for costs of data center

-OF-Premise Hosting

Referred to as cloud computing

Hosted in the cloud and accessed online

Cloud provider owns the hardware

Cloud provider has some control over the server

Reduces costs,as a cloud provider is responsible for the data center

-Orchestration Platforms

For day-to day tasks

Automated management of cloud environments

Syncs business requests with infrastructure

 

Cloud Characteristics and Terms

-Elasticity

Enables computing resources to be moves as needed

Shifts resources across the infrastructure

Allows workloads to be increased to additional hardware inside a pool

-Demand-Driver Service

Customers use an online portal to access the services

A supplier can provide provision cloud resources on demand

-Pay-as-you-Grow

Pay for the services as needed

Pay for the computing resources that are being used

Pay for services by time,hour,data

-Charge back

Accouting strategy to decentralize IT costs

Charge the department independently for the services that are being used

Services are billed to the department budget versus  the IT’s budget

Also know as showback

-Ubiquitous Access

Same level of access from anyplace

Able to access the resources with they same ability from any location

-Metering

Tracking of IT resources

Measure usage by cloud consumer

Allows a the consumer to be charge for the resources used

-Multi tenancy

Allows one instance to many users

Each user has a view of the application

Users are oblivious to other users

-Cloud Bursting

Allows retails to explode to the cloud when resources are scares

The resources are in the local LAN when the local LAN is over used the resources become available in the cloud

 

Object Storage Concepts

-Object ID

Unique identifiers for the data and metadata

Used to find the data

-Metadata

Describes each object in the database

Used like a table for a database

Contains the compounds of the data

-Data BLOB

Binary large object

Primarily used in database

Large amounts of binary data stored in a location to help copy between location

-Policies

Attributed associated with objects

Similar to metadata but for security mechanism

-Replicas

Copies of large data set

Associated with VHD

Require a copy mechanism
