NotepadVI file editing

h

move left one character on the current line 

 

move down to the next line 

 

k

move down to the previos line

 

l

move right one character on the current line 

 

move to the next word on the current line 

 

e

move to the next end of word on the current line 

 

move to the pervios beginning of the word on the current line 

 

ctrl-f  

scroll forward one page 

 

ctrl-b 

scroll backward one page 

 

G

move to a specific line ib your file. Ex: 4G moves to line 4, if G is by itself it will move to the last line of the file.

 

H

moves relative to the top line on the screen, Ex: 3H moves to the line currently 3rd from the top.

 

L

is simllar to H. except that movement is relative to the last line on the screen. Ex: 3L move to the second to the last line on your screen.

 

 

 

Getting out of VI

 

:q!

quits the editing of the file and abandons any changes.

 

:w!

commits changes ..save changes only.

 

:ZZ

this writes the file as it has been currently edited and exits.

 

:e!

this reloads the file abandoning any changes you had made.

 

: ! 

run a shell command.
