for a newbie how would explain ssh ,as though you were telling a dummie ?..thank you

A secure way to connect remotely to a system.

    Paul Rouk

If you open a Bash terminal on a Linux system, then all of the commands you type will run on the computer you are sitting in front of. Now, if you use ssh to connect to a remote computer, you will still see a Bash terminal after ssh connects. However, now all of the commands you run will actually be running on the remote computer. You are just viewing the results on your computer’s screen even though the action is happening somewhere else.

Keep in mind that this is just the most basic use of ssh. Entire books have been written on how to use the more advanced features of ssh.
