A good WebMobile Application Security Engineer will exhibit an Interest in and have experience in all aspects of computer and network security including security research and development. The Engineer must demonstrate breadth and depth of knowledge of techniques, standards, and state-of-the art capabilities for authenticating, authorizing and using cryptographic systems to ensure the security of an enterprise’s applications. Experience in designing and implementing software systems and security solutions for operating systems and distributed systems is invaluable in this position.

Those in this position specialize in security vulnerability assessments of applications and systems and carry out the following tasks in their job:

  • Develop recommendations for improved application security practices and adjustments to security requirements.
  • Lead process improvement activities.
  • Recognize, adopt, use and teach best practices in security engineering including secure development, cryptography, network security, security operations, systems security, policy and incident response.
  • Help teams develop pragmatic solutions that achieve business requirements while maintaining an acceptable level of risk.
  • Solve problems at their root with an understanding of the broader context.
  • Work with development teams to carry out Application Security Reviews
  • Provide expert advice and consultancy on risk assessment, threat modeling and vulnerabilities mitigation.
  • Design, implement, and support security-focused tools and services.
  • Develop training materials for general security awareness.
  • Evaluate new and emerging security products and technologies

 

General Educational Requirements

The minimum requirement for the position of WebMobile Application Security Engineer generally is a Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Security. Equivalent practical experience or military experience in designing and implementing software systems may be substituted for part or all of a degree by some employers. Industry certifications generally required and a government clearance will be required by some employers.
 

Additional Qualifications

A WebMobile Application Security Engineer must maintain current knowledge and skills to keep up with the rapidly changing internet threat landscape and how it affects the enterprise. In addition, the Engineer must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and must demonstrate excellent teamwork skills.
