Much of an IT organization’s effort within a company, association, or government entity is spent on prevention of cyber attacks because any attack can be catastrophic in terms of lost productivity and lost reputation. Regardless of how thoroughly a system has been vetted and prepared for intrusion, however, even the best prevention is not 100 percent foolproof. So organizations need knowledgeable Disaster Recovery Analysts available to develop an effective solution that will provide business continuity and that will restore a system to full usefulness.

When a cybersecurity attack occurs it is up to the Disaster Recovery Analyst to stem the tide of any damage and to provide mitigation. The Analyst must be able to implement a data back-up and disaster recovery solution that will mitigate the adversity and restore the status quo as quickly as possible.

Armed with a knowledge of business continuity, disaster recovery, and risk management concepts and processes, the Disaster Recovery Analyst conducts quality assessments to verify that plans meet established standards, business needs, and regulatory requirements; coordinates testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure that recovery procedures will promote the resumption of business processes, applications, and systems; and conducts lessons learned sessions to evaluate events and their resolutions.

General Educational Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related work experience in Information Technology Disaster Recovery Program coordination generally is the minimum requirement for this position. Specific professional certifications in business continuity or disaster recovery generally are required or must be obtained within a limited time period of employment.

Additional Qualifications
