Director of Information Security Analysis is a high-level, high-visibility position that generally reports directly to a company’s Chief Information Officer.  The Director of Information Security serves as the leading advocate for security and risk management processes and is responsible for establishing security guidelines and best practices. The Director also will develop, implement, and manage the enterprise’s IT Disaster Recovery Program.

The focus of the Director of Information Security Analysis is on identifying information security vulnerabilities and providing recommendations and solutions for strengthening those vulnerabilities. The Director must have hands-on experience with technologies such as mobile device management, vulnerability management, firewalls, asset management, data classification, penetration testing, forensics, and endpoint protection solutions.

The Director of Information Security Analysis is responsible for investigating relevant IT environment information while understanding existing electronic and non-electronic information security processes and controls. The Director will manage third-party relationships for additional security services, develop IT security risk metrics, and identify issues that put information security at risk. He/she will ensure proper documentation and presentation of the results of security risk analyses. The Director must understand the current regulatory environment and all related issues of security management compliance.

General Educational Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Technology, or other related field generally is required for the position of Director of Information Security Analysis. Most employers, however, require a Master’s Degree for this position. Because of the high level of this position, up to 10 years of work experience in Information Security, Business/Risk Management, or Information Security may be required. Significant and high-level Industry certifications generally are required.

In addition to having a strong technical background, the Director of Information Systems Analysis must be influential, resilient, and energetic with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, challenging, and growth-oriented environment. He/she must have the following characteristics:

  • Attention to detail with flexibility in addressing changing requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially the ability to communicate security technology to people at all levels across the enterprise
  • Hands-on leadership style with excellent leadership skills and the ability to influence others and elicit respect in the enterprise through management style, technical depth, customer service, and results
