These people are out there, waiting for you to make a mistake so that they can latch onto you like parasites to feed on your money, sensitive information, and identity. With that in mind, here are ten cyber safety tips every Internet user must know.


  • Be smart with passwords: Use uppercase, lowercase, special characters and numbers in your password
  • Lock your device: Use a pin, password, pattern, and face lock
  • Apply software updates: Use patched & up-to-date browsers, software, and OS
  • Always log off: Avoid selecting keep me logged in” or “remember me,” especially on public computers
  • Beware of freeware: download free software only from verified publishers
  • Shop from trusted sites: Your money and data are safe with well-known online stores
  • Know your online friends: Accept friend requests only from people you know
  • Use secure websites: Shop and bank only on sites whose URL begins with “https.”
  • Use 2-step verification: you’ll receive a passcode every time you log in to your account
  • Use an antivirus: It’ll protect your PC against hackers and malware

However, while this access to public Wi-Fi networks is convenient, it can put your data at risk from attackers. This is because such networks are often not secured.
