- 220-1002: 1.10 Given a scenario, use Microsoft Windows Control Panel's user related utilities
Lab Duration
It will take approximately 1 hour to complete this lab.
Exercise 1 - Working with the Folder Options
Folder options are divided into three segments:
- General
- View
- Search
Folder options comprise of functionality that is useful for customizing the appearance of the File Explorer window. The following areas can be configured using the folder option’s functionality:
- How are folders are opened
- Which file parameters are displayed
- Whether the search operation include the hidden content or not
In this exercise, you will be viewing the settings that allow the File Explorer window to be customized.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this exercise, you will be able to:
- Work with the Folder Options
Exercise 2 - Configuring Firewall Rules using Windows Firewall
A firewall protects your computer from unauthorized access by users or applications outside of your corporate network. To make the firewall effective, you need to define/edit firewall rules.
These rules analyze the packets coming to the computer or network and compare whether the specified conditions are satisfied and then allow/deny access to the computer or network accordingly. Windows Firewall application enables you to configure and edit firewall rules.
In this exercise, you will create firewall rules using Windows firewall and verify their efficiency in managing access to the computer.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this exercise, you will be able to:
- Work with Windows Firewall
Exercise 3 - Using Programs and Features
Information of all the installed applications is displayed in the Programs and Features console. This information includes the following:
- Publisher
- Size
- Version
- Name
Along with this information, the option to uninstall/change the method of installation of an application is available.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this exercise, you will be able to:
- Work with the programs and features section
Exercise 4 - Knowing the Power Options
The power option window has the functionality to decide the state of the machine. The following options are available in Power Options:
- Hibernate
- Sleep
- Standby
Hibernate option shuts the machine, but the open applications are stored in the memory. As a result, when the machine starts again, the previously opened applications will run in the exact state as it was before hibernating.
Sleep option puts the machine into a low power-consuming mode. It keeps all your open applications running. As soon as the machine starts up from sleep, the running applications are readily available for use
Standby mode happens when a machine has been idle for a period of time.
It is possible to decide whether preference should be given to performance or energy efficiency.
In this exercise, you will see the methods to configure the power options by customizing an existing and creating a new power plan.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this exercise, you will be able to:
- Configure power options
Exercise 5 - Working with HomeGroup
A HomeGroup is a group of personal computers on a home network that can share various resources like files and printers, which may be required to perform different tasks on a computer system. Not all required resources may be available on a local machine. These resources could be available with other machines on the same network.
In the present lab setup, the machine is already in the domain. Hence, it is not possible to create a new HomeGroup.
In the exercise, you will be shown a demonstration of leaving a HomeGroup.
