The following exam objectives are covered in this lab:
- 220-902: 4.1 Given a scenario, troubleshoot PC operating system problems with appropriate tools (Common symptoms)
- 220-902: 4.2 Given a scenario, troubleshoot common PC security issues with appropriate tools and best practices (Common symptoms)
Lab time: It will take approximately 1 hour to complete this lab.
Exercise 1 - Resolve Common Network Access Issues
Most computer systems encounter network access issues that might be caused by missing patches, incorrect configuration, and faulty programs. In this exercise, you will explore network access problems that corporate users may experience, such as unable to logon to the domain and lack of access to shared resources.
Exercise 2 - Resolve Common System Performance Problems
Common system performance problems can include issues such as memory leaks and runaway applications. A memory leak is a type of computer resource leak that happens when a computer program incorrectly manages memory allocation wherein memory that is no longer needed is not released by the application. A leaky application continuously demands additional memory. This leads to memory bottlenecks and performance degradation of the system. This problem can be resolved by contacting the software vendor that sold you the program and ask for an update or a bug fix.
Similarly, runaway applications can cause problems such as using up too much CPU time, thereby again leading to performance degradation on the system. There are many reasons why a process or application becomes uncontrollable. It can be traced to bugs within the application or insufficient system hardware that is unable to address the demands of the application.
In this exercise, you will run a program that will introduce memory leaks and high CPU utilization on a server.
