Overview

Introduction

Welcome to the Network Management - Diagrams, Symbols, and Documentation Practice Lab. In this module you will be provided with the instructions and devices needed to develop your hands-on skills.

Learning Outcomes

In this module, you will complete the following exercises:

  • Exercise 1 - Introduction to LibreOffice Draw
  • Exercise 2 - Create Network Diagrams with LibreOffice Draw

After completing this lab, you will be able to:

  • Identify network symbols
  • Create and modify network diagrams using LibreOffice Draw
  • Create a physical network diagram using LibreOffice Draw
  • Create a logical network diagram using LibreOffice Draw

Exam Objectives

The following exam objectives are covered in this lab:

  • N10-007 1.5: Compare and contrast the characteristics of network topologies, types, and technologies (Wired topologies, Logical vs. physical)
  • N10-007 1.5: Compare and contrast the characteristics of network topologies, types, and technologies (Wired topologies, Star)
  • N10-007 3.1: Given a scenario, use appropriate documentation and diagrams to manage the network (Diagram symbols)
  • N10-007 3.1: Given a scenario, use appropriate documentation and diagrams to manage the network (Logical vs. physical diagrams)
  • N10-007 3.1: Given a scenario, use appropriate documentation and diagrams to manage the network (Wiring and port locations)
  • N10-007 3.1: Given a scenario, use appropriate documentation and diagrams to manage the network (IDF/MDF documentation)
  • N10-007 3.1: Given a scenario, use appropriate documentation and diagrams to manage the network (Labeling)
  • N10-007 3.1: Given a scenario, use appropriate documentation and diagrams to manage the network (Inventory management)

Lab Duration

It will take approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete this lab.

Exercise 1 - Introduction to LibreOffice Draw

In this exercise you will familiarize yourself with the application you will use to create the network diagrams and documentation. The PLABWIN10 device has the LibreOffice Draw application preinstalled along with the appropriate icon and symbol galleries.

LibreOffice Draw is a vector graphics editor and diagramming tool. It provides connectors between shapes, which are available in a range of line styles and facilitate building drawings such as flowcharts. This makes it suitable to use for designing and documenting networks.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Identify network symbols
  • Create and modify network diagrams using LibreOffice Draw
  • Create a physical network diagram using LibreOffice Draw
  • Create a logical network diagram using LibreOffice Draw

Exercise 2 - Create Network Diagrams with LibreOffice Draw

After familiarizing yourself with the functionality of LibreOffice Draw, you are now ready to create the network diagrams.

In this exercise, you will create a logical network diagram using the lab topology provided as a base. You will also create a physical network diagram of a network that will be described in one of the following tasks.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Create and modify network diagrams using LibreOffice Draw
