- Learn how to use Windows Defender
- How to use Reliability Monitor to troubleshoot system errors
It will take approximately 75 minutes to complete this lab.
Exercise 1 - Monitoring System Performance
Monitoring the system performance helps to identify high resource usage and other application issues. You can collect performance metrics using built-in Windows tools such as Task Manager or Resource Monitor. By using these tools, you can monitor the following details:
- Usage of Central Processing Unit (CPU), memory, disk, and network
- Running applications and background processes
- Installed applications
- Startup applications
- Current or remote users
- Active or inactive services In this exercise, you will learn to monitor system’s performance using the Task Manager and Resource Monitor.
Exercise 2 - Recording Performance Data
Performance Monitor application is tool that can monitor and collect the system performance data in real time involving a computer’s resources like processor, memory, disk and network. This tool displays the performance related statistics in graphical charts and enables you to record the data in a log file for later analysis. There are two built-in collector sets that help to use the Performance Monitor tool, namely: System Diagnostics Data Collector Set and System Performance Data Collector Set.
In this exercise, you will learn to record the system performance data using System performance Data Collector Set.
Exercise 3 - Managing Printers
The Print Management provides a unified administrator dashboard to manage the device printers in a corporate network. You can perform many tasks using the console. Some of the tasks are as follows:
- Set the printer properties
- Manage the printing queues
- Add and delete printers
- Set printing defaults
- Rename the device printers
In this exercise, you will learn to manage printers using the Print Management console.
Exercise 4 - Working with Indexing Options
Windows 10 automatically indexes data such as files and folders in the background to enhance the performance of search process. At times, it may not be practical to index large amount of data as it can affect the search process and potentially cause system degradation. To make a search convenient in Windows, new locations that need to be indexed can be added using the Indexing Options tool in Control Panel.
In this exercise, you will learn to work with the Indexing Options tool.
Exercise 5 - Working with Windows Defender
Windows Defender is a trusted antivirus protection and anti-malware component, built into Windows 10. Windows Defender keeps your PC safer as it helps identify and remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It runs in the background and notifies you of any threats and specific action to be taken to eliminate the threats. You can proactively use Windows Defender to scan for malware, viruses, or spyware.
In this exercise, you will start, update, view details, and perform a scan in Windows Defender.
Exercise 6 - Working with Reliability Monitor
The Reliability Monitor tool displays a time line of a computer system’s reliability history. Using this tool, you can identify and solve the system’s reliability issues in system configuration, software, or driver installations. You can determine the system’s stability using the Reliability Monitor tool. Reliability Monitor is enabled by default in Windows 10.
In this exercise, you will learn to work with Reliability Monitor.
