The Managing Applications Using App-V module provides you with the instruction and server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:
- Managing App-V Server
- Install App-V 5.1
- Managing App-V Client
Exercise 1 - Managing App-V Server
Application Virtualization (App-V) is a software deployment technology that enables administrators to stream applications on demand to end users without actually installing the application on their computers. This service gives the users the ability to run multiple different applications on the same machine without the hassle of having to resolve incompatibility issues among installed programs. App-V manages the applications by transforming them into a centrally administered service that are never physically installed on client computers.
In this exercise, you will prepare the 7Zip, an end-user application, for streaming to computers on PracticeLabs domain. You will use the Microsoft Application Virtualization Sequencer, one of the software tools in the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance also known as MDOP. The latest MDOP version is available only under the Microsoft Volume License which is software subscription service for Microsoft partners.
Exercise 2 - Install App-V 5.1
In this exercise, you will install App-V 5.1 Server and Sequencer to replace the earlier version that was uninstalled earlier. App-V 5.1 provides support for Windows 10, version 1607 also known as the Anniversary Update.
App-V is included with Windows 10 Enterprise Edition. Earlier versions of Windows desktop operating systems require the installation of client-side components to start receiving virtual applications from an App-V server.
Exercise 3 - Managing App-V Client
App-V is integrated with the release of Windows 10, version 1607 also known as the anniversary update. In this exercise, you will enable the App-V client component via Group Policy and run PowerShell commands to verify the functionality of App-V client.
