The Implementing Windows 10 Main Features module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop your hands-on skills in the following topics.
-Configuring Microsoft Edge settings -Working with Internet Explorer -Installing Hyper-V Server -Demonstrating power management settings -Working with Cortana
Five objectives are covered in this lab.
-Configure Microsoft Edge settings in Windows 10 -How to pin IE icon to Windows 10 Start or taskbar and set IE as default browser -Install Hyper-V on Windows 10 using the following: via Control Panel -Configure power management settings in Windows 10 -Demonstrate how to configure Cortana
It will take approximately 70 minutes to complete this lab.
Exercise 1 - Configuring Microsoft Edge Settings
Microsoft Edge is the new Web browser that provides interface consistency across all the Windows 10 devices such as tablets, laptops and smartphones. Microsoft Edge interface is simple with new and improved features. The features are as follows:
Reading mode feature simplifies the web page layout view. Hub feature consolidates the Browser History, Downloads, Favourites, Reading List and so on. Web Notes feature provides tools to create notes, drawings, highlight web pages and so on. In this exercise, you will configure Microsoft Edge settings with the help of Settings and more link in the browser.
Exercise 2 - Working with Internet Explorer
Windows 10 includes Internet Explorer in addition to Microsoft Edge as web browser. Internet Explorer provides efficient backward compatibility to correctly render most web sites---a feature currently unavailable in Microsoft Edge. Backward compatibility ensures that most legacy web applications and web pages will remain functional with Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer also provides additional privacy and security features which prove as an advantage as compared to Microsoft Edge. To enable the features and benefits of Internet Explorer in your system, it is important that along with Microsoft Edge, you configure Internet Explorer in Windows 10.
In this exercise, you will learn to pin IE icon to Windows Start or taskbar and set IE as default browser.
Exercise 3 - Installing Hyper-V Server
Hyper-V is a machine virtualization platform from Microsoft that enables you to install and run multiple 32-bit or 64-bit OS in parallel on the same machine. This feature allows you to work on various OS without having to invest in expensive computer hardware. In addition, you can use Hyper-V to install and test virtual machines of various configurations without affecting the functionality of other virtual or physical machines.
There are certain prerequisites that need to be followed before you install the client Hyper-V. The prerequisites are as follows:
The computer must have a 64-bit version of Windows 10 operating system. The processor must be X64 that supports second level address translation (SLAT) and BIOS-level virtualization support. The computer must have 4GB of physical memory or higher to support the guest virtual machines hosted in the Hyper-V host. The computer must have a sufficient disk storage for virtual machine support files like virtual hard disks or vhd. The Hyper-V Server like other Windows features can be installed in different ways, such as using Program Features in Control Panel, via PowerShell and a command line tool called Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool or dism.exe.
In this exercise, you will install Hyper-V on Windows 10 using Control Panel.
Exercise 4 - Demonstrating Power Management Settings
For mobile users, it is recommended to conserve the battery life of computers and mobile devices when working on the move. Managing power consumption of the computer’s peripherals like display and wireless network efficiently ensures extended battery life that translates to greater productivity when working away from the office.
You can configure power management settings based on your requirements. Windows 10 provides basic power options and gives you the flexibility to customize power plans using the power management settings.
In this exercise, you will configure power management settings in Windows 10.
Exercise 5 - Working with Cortana
Cortana is the new voice-driven digital personal assistant in Windows 10. It helps you set reminders, manage calendar, track schedules of the appointments and even helps you to send text messages. For example, Cortana helps you set a reminder for a doctor’s appointment at 11 am on Monday. By default, once you sign in, Windows 10 enables the Cortana feature in your computer. Windows 10 computer with Cortana must be equipped with sound and microphone system. You can configure Cortana to give you suggestions, reminders, or alerts, find flights, give missed call notifications, optimize local search device history and so on.
