Exercise 1- Performing System Backup

Backup data makes data available for restoration and recovery. Therefore, it is recommended to have a policy to backup the system on a regular basis.

The backup file is normally stored in an external storage device.

There are different types of backup, such as image-level and file-level.

  • Image-level - Creates an image of your system
  • File-level - Creates a copy of all the files at a location

Windows offers data backup feature to perform both types of backups.

In this exercise, you will learn to perform an image-level backup.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Perform Image Level Backup

Exercise 2 - Creating Backup on the Cloud Storage

Backups are created using multiple methods. Two of the methods are:

  • Creating a backup copy on the local machine
  • Creating a backup copy on the cloud drive

Local storage backup is storing a backup copy on the local machine. A local backup copy will be lost if the local machine is completely damaged. Along with the data, the backup copy could get lost. A cloud backup is a safer option because the backup copy is far away from your local system. In case, all the data on the local machine is lost, the copy on the cloud still would remain available. The cloud copy can be replicated in the shortest time possible depending on the amount of data in the backup.

In this exercise, you will use Microsoft OneDrive to back up files in the cloud.
