Exercise 1 - Running MBSA to Detect System Vulnerabilities

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) is a free security assessment tool. MBSA scans the target computer to analyse the missing updates for Windows OS and its software components. Examples of such components include Internet Explorer (IE), Internet Information service (IIS), Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), MSXML (Microsoft XML Parser), .NET Framework, SQL Server and more. MBSA checks the updates either from the Microsoft website or from the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) in your corporate network.

In addition, MBSA also scans the computer configuration for potential security risks—like blank passwords for user accounts. MBSA tool is available on the Microsoft website for public download.
