Overview

Introduction

The Designing Client Configurations module provides you with the instruction and computer hardware to develop your hands on skills. This module includes the following exercises:

  1. Design Standard System Settings
  2. Define Client Security Standards
  3. Managing Client Configuration
  4. Defining Windows Internet Explorer Settings

Exercise 1 - Designing Standard System Settings

In this exercise you will perform the tasks required to implement standard system settings for your organisation. You will set up Group Policy to deploy scripts and Group Policy Preferences to apply standard settings to Windows 7. You will also set up roaming user profiles and folder redirection.

Exercise 2 - Defining Client Security Standards

In this exercise you will perform the tasks required to define client security standards for your organisation. You will create and link a Group Policy Object (GPO) containing settings which will secure your Windows 7 clients. You will also test these settings to ensure that they are correctly configured.

Exercise 3 - Managing Client Configuration

In some cases your internal security policies define that Microsoft Windows client settings should be configured and managed centrally. In order to configure these services centrally you can define the settings in a group policy object to manage your Active Directory computer objects.

Exercise 4 - Defining Windows Internet Explorer Settings

In this exercise you will perform the tasks required to define Windows Internet Explorer settings. You will configure security zones, manage privacy and manage add-ons. You will also change the cache location.
