Introduction
The Creating and Deploying VHD module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop your hands on skills in the following topics.
- Creating and deploying VHD using SCCM 2012 Task Sequence
Exercise 1- Creating and Deploying VHD using SCCM 2012
SCCM 2012 allows you to manage virtual hard disks (VHDs) from the Configuration Manager console. Using the SCCM 2012 console, you can create and modify VHDs and even publish the VHD to System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) from the Configuration Manager console.
In this exercise, you will learn how to create and deploy a VHD in the SCCM 2012 console. For this, you will first install SCCM 2012 console in PLABVMM01 machine that contains the Hyper-V installation. The installation of Hyper-V on the machine from which you run the Configuration Manager console to manage VHDs is one of the prerequisite to this task. In addition, as the process of creating the VHDs consumes lots of memory and CPU time, it is recommended that you install the Configuration Manager console for managing VHDs on a separate machine apart from the site servers. This demonstration installs the Configuration Manager Console on PLABVMM01 for this purpose.
To create a VHD, you must create a task sequence. The task sequence must contain the steps to create the VHD. You will use the task sequence in the Create Virtual Hard Drive Wizard to create the VHD.
