Overview

Introduction

The Create and Deploy Virtual Machines module provides you with the instruction and server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:

  1. Viewing Virtual Guest Settings

  2. Managing Virtual Machine Resources

  3. Configure Virtual Guest Disk Options

  4. Using VMware Converter

Exercise 1 - Viewing Virtual Guest Settings

In this exercise, you will learn the following in vSphere:

  • Identify methods to access and use a virtual machine console
  • Identify virtual machine storage resources

Exercise 2 – Managing Virtual Machine Resources

In this exercise, you will learn the following in vSphere:

  • Place virtual machines in selected ESXi hosts/Clusters/Resource Pools
  • Configure and deploy a Guest OS into a new virtual machine
  • Configure/Modify disk controller for virtual disks
  • Configure appropriate virtual disk type for a virtual machine
  • Create/Convert thin/thick provisioned virtual disks

Exercise 3 – Configure Virtual Guest Disk Options

In this exercise, you will learn the following in vSphere:

  • Configure disk shares

Exercise 4 - Using VMware Converter

Using VMware Converter, you can convert a physical machine to a virtual machine. There are a number of tasks that you can perform with VMware Converter:

  • Convert physical servers to virtual machines (P2V) – Either VMware Infrastructure or VMware Workstation systems
  • Convert virtual machines to virtual machines (V2V)
  • Configure virtual machines
  • Import various types of image formats and convert them into virtual machines
