Exercise 1 - Working with POP3 and IMAP4 Services

Post Office Protocol 3 or commonly known as POP3, is a client-server protocol that helps the mail server to receive emails. It is a simple and well-structured protocol. POP3 helps the mail server to organize the emails in the relevant folders. It also helps the users to download the emails from the mail server onto their local storage. POP3 usually do not store copies of the emails on the server, once the user has downloaded them. Therefore, users cannot access their emails from multiple devices. There is no synchronization of emails on the mail server and email client.

Internet Message Access Protocol 4 or popularly known as IMAP4 is a protocol that stores the emails on the mail server. It is an advanced protocol as compared to POP3. The sent emails are also stored on the mail server. Users can sync their emails on the mail server and email client. This helps the users to access the emails from multiple devices using the webmail option.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol or commonly known as SMTP is a TCP/IP protocol used to send and receive emails. This protocol generally works with POP3 or IMAP4 in the domain of email communication.
