The Configure, Verify, and Troubleshoot IPv6 Addressing module provides you with the instructions and Cisco hardware to develop your hands-on skills in designing configuring IPv6 addressing on a network. This module includes the following activities:
- Determine the addressing scheme that will be applied to the lab topology
- Assign IP addresses to interfaces on network devices according to the addressing scheme
- Verify the IP addressing configuration
- Examine common misconfigurations that can occur when using IPv6 addressing
- Troubleshoot and resolve network problems due to IPv6 addressing misconfigurations
Exercise 1 - Determine the IPv6 Addressing Scheme
Before implementing any devices, you will have to determine the IPv6 addresses and prefixes that will be assigned on the network and which portions and devices of the network will have which prefixes assigned to them. This planning process is critical to the success of your configurations because it gives you a general overview of the whole network. It is often very tempting to go right into the command line and begin configurations, however, this will almost always result in loss of time and effort.
In this exercise, you will determine the IPv6 addressing scheme necessary to configure the network fully.
Exercise 2 - Implement the IPv6 Addressing Scheme
You will now implement the IP dressing scheme you created n Exercise 1.
Exercise 3 - Verifying and Troubleshooting the Implemented IP Address Scheme
In this exercise, you will verify that the configuration you applied is working correctly. You will also simulate misconfigurations on the network and examine their implications.
Exercise 4 - Introduction to SLAAC
Stateless Address Auto Configuration or SLAAC is a functionality of IPv6 that doesn’t have a counterpart in IPv4. It is a method of providing global unicast IPv6 addresses to clients from the local router without the use of a DHCP server. In this exercise, you will implement and verify SLAAC.
