Introduction
The Configure, Verify and Troubleshoot Inter-VLAN Routing module provides you with the instructions and Cisco hardware to develop your hands on skills in configuring inter-VLAN routing using both a separate router for routing, which is also known as “router on a stick” as well as using a layer 3 switch and SVIs. This module includes the following exercises:
- Configuring and verifying inter-VLAN routing using a “router on a stick” topology
- Configuring and verifying inter-VLAN routing using a layer 3 switch with SVIs
- Troubleshooting inter-VLAN routing
Exercise 1 - Configuring Inter-VLAN Routing using a Router on a Stick Topology
In this exercise you will configure a router to route between VLANs enabling IP communication between them.
Use your study material or your favourite search engine to find information on the following topic:
- Configuring Inter-VLAN Routing and ISL/802.1Q Trunking on a Catalyst 2900XL/3500XL/2950 Switch Using an External Router
Exercise 2 - Configuring Inter-VLAN Routing using Switched Virtual Interfaces
In this exercise, you will configure inter-VLAN routing using Switched Virtual Interfaces or SVIs on a layer 3 switch in order to enable IP communication between VLANs.
Exercise Goals
The goal of this exercise is to configure the NYCORE1 switch to provide both routing and switching functionality, thus eliminating the need for NYEDGE1 for the purposes of inter-VLAN routing.
