The Configure Software Updates module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop hands on skills in the following topics:
- Installing and Configuring WSUS
- Configure Software Update Point
- Create Software Update Group
Exercise 1- Installing and Configuring WSUS
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) is Microsoft standalone patch management service to streamline the distribution of software updates to an array of Microsoft products such as operating systems and user applications.
In this exercise, you will install WSUS on the SCCM R2 2012 server which is one of pre-requisites to enable System Center 2012 to manage the updates collected by WSUS service.
Exercise 2 - Install and Configure Software Update Point Role
After a successful synchronization of the Update Services Server, you will install Software Update Point role on the primary site of your SCCM 2012 server. The Software Update Point role will enable the deployment of software updates to clients.
The software update point will interact with the WSUS services for configuring the software update settings and synchronizing the software updates metadata.
Exercise 3 - Create Software Update Group
SCCM 2012 allows you to create software update groups to organize and manage software updates in SCCM 2012. In this exercise, you will learn how to create a software update group.
