The Configure EFS and Managing Disk Quota module provides you with the instruction and server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:
- Managing EFS on a Local Computer
- Configure Disk Quota on Local Workstation
- Managing File Storage Quota on Windows Domain
Exercise 1 - Managing EFS on a Local Computer
Encrypting File System (EFS) is a security feature built into Windows that helps secure personal folders and files on a workstation. EFS uses a strong encryption algorithm called DESX. DESX is a variant of the Data Encryption Standard (DES) of the US government. A Windows user encrypts a folder, including the files within it, using a certificate and a key retrieved from the user profile. In this exercise, you will manage an EFS certificate to encrypt and decrypt files on a computer.
Exercise 2 - Configure Disk Quota on Local Workstation
Disk quota is an NTFS feature that gives administrators the capability to set limits on the disk space allocated to users to save files on Windows servers and even Windows workstations. Disk quotas can be defined using either GUI or command line. You can also import/export the disk quotas.
File ownership determines the actual disk space usage of every user. The administrator can configure the computer to deny the user disk space if that user exceeds the allocated disk storage.
In this exercise, you will manage disk quota on the PLABWIN10 workstation on the Practice Labs web application.
Exercise 3 - Managing File Storage Quota on Windows Domain
Implementing file storage quota on a domain level enables an administrator to limit disk space usage of network users on the organization level. On Windows Server 2012, you can implement disk quota on a per-folder basis by installing the File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) feature.
In this exercise, you will install and configure the FSRM feature to manage the actual disk space usage of every user of the domain.
