Overview

Introduction

The Configure and Verify Single Homed Branch Connectivity Using eBGP for IPv4 module provide you with the instructions and Cisco hardware to develop your hands on skills in configuring External Border Gateway Protocol for IPv4. This module includes the following exercises:

  • Preparing the network to implement BGP
  • Implementing external BGP, creating neighbor relationships and filtering advertised routes

Exercise 1 - eBGP Overview and Preparation

Unlike the configuration for RIP, OSPF and EIGRP which are similar, BGP’s configuration differs in its method of implementation. BGP configuration can be much more complex than any other routing protocol. Often it is this complexity and the change in mind-set that can lead to problems with BGP. The route selection process is also quite extensive and can be hard to understand.

BGP can be configured as an internal routing protocol, iBGP and as an external routing protocol, eBGP. You will deal only with eBGP.

In this exercise, you will learn how to prepare a network to begin using eBGP to connect to the Internet.

Exercise 2 - eBGP and Basic Route Filtering

BGP can have one of several configurations when connecting to the Internet. These include single homed, single multi-homed, dual homed, and multi homed configurations among others.

In this exercise you will configure basic external BGP such that the internal network of NYEDGE1 on Loopback 10 with a network address of 11.22.33.0/26 will be advertised out to the Internet while all other internal addresses will not.
