Introduction
The Configure and Verify Device-Monitoring Protocols module provides you with the instructions and Cisco hardware to develop your hands on skills in configuring and implementing Simple Network Management Protocol version 2 and 3. This module includes exercises that will cover the following topics:
- Configure and verify secure access to SNMPv2c
- Configure SNMPv3 and observe differences between the two versions
Exercise 1 - Configuring SNMPv2c
In this exercise, you will configure SNMPv2c on the NYEDGE1 router with a read-write (RW) community string of PracticeLabsRW. You will also limit the devices that can access SNMP information using an access list.
Exercise 2 - Configuring SNMPv3
In order to appreciate the features offered by the different versions of SNMP, you will now configure SNMPv3 implementing its additional capabilities.
Configuring SNMPv3 is only a little bit more complicated than SNMPv2c as there are more features that you can configure.
You have a choice of enabling authentication, encryption or neither. These options are defined in the following list:
- noauth - does not use authentication
- auth - enables authentication
- priv - enables encryption
