The Q & A

Tell us about yourself:

"I’m a Senior Security Analyst and Splunk Admin based in Denver, Colorado. I got my start in IT by writing technical documentation and running cables, and then, with the help of Cybrary, eventually made my way into cybersecurity. In past lives, I’ve worked in construction, taught swimming lessons, copyedited textbooks, assisted special needs students, and tutored at a community center, among other things. I’m passionate about how education can change lives, and I love helping people strategically develop their talents. In my free time, you might find me snowshoeing in the mountains, watching SciFi shows (The Twilight Zone and Star Trek are my go-tos), or attending poetry slams."

What brought you to teaching on Cybrary:

"I found Cybrary when studying for the CCNA and have since become addicted to its courses. I felt like I was at the point in my career where it was time to give back a little, and I knew I could benefit from the Cybrary community."

Tell us a little bit about your course:

"Introduction to Splunk is a combination of a crash course and a Splunk teaser. There’s been more than a few times when I’ve frantically tried to learn a topic the night before a job interview, and these days Splunk shows up as an item on so many different types of job postings. I also wanted it to be a good initial step for someone who wanted to make a career out of Splunk."

Your Experience in Cyber Security:

"I’m currently finishing up a master’s degree in IT with an emphasis on Information Systems Security, as well as working in the field."

Interests in Cyber Security:

"Lately I’ve been getting more into automation and training, but I still love digging into an investigation."
