The Q & A

Tell us about yourself

"It was the fall of 1994 when my high school received a major upgrade, we received the internet! It was my sophomore year, and I can still clearly remember walking into the computer lab for the first time and being so excited! I started teaching myself about the internet, networking, and hacking at that point.I hold a bachelor's degree in Theatre and have recently received an Associate's of Applied Sciences in Cyber Security from the College of Southern Nevada. While I was there I also co-founded CSN's Cybersecurity club where I was their first ever president! Plus, I also was a lab researcher and writer in Network+, Digital Forensics, and Ethical Hacking for CSN until I graduated. After graduation I joined a local cybersecurity group, “Shad0w Synd1cate” where I am involved in running some labs and CTF’s (Cybersecurity Capture the Flag) for them.On a personal note, I live in the Las Vegas NV area with my wife and our two dogs. When I am not writing and research cybersecurity labs I am playing video games on Steam and Xbox and watching kung fu/action movies!"

What brought you to teaching on Cybrary:

"Originally, I wanted to go into hacking (red team/white hat) but the longer I stayed and helped at the College of Southern Nevada, I realized I wanted to teach this! I love researching and writing labs in cybersecurity. So, after college, I started to apply for instructional design and was picked up quickly by Cybrary. We talked about course ideas and I was very excited about this course and I dove in!"

Tell us a little bit about your course:

This is a comprehensive guide to the Tor browser and network. We look into the differences between the Deep Web/Dark Web/and Darknet. It’s not all just talking, we do a hands-on installation of the Tor browser and Firefox, then compare the two to see which browser is more secure! Who do you think wins? Also, we talk about how the Tor network functions and what it takes to run a Tor relay, especially an exit relay.

Your Experience in Cyber Security:

"Teaching myself cybersecurity from 1994 to now, as well as an Associate’s in Applied Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics."

Interests in Cyber Security:

"I collect pcaps (Wireshark network analysis output), digital forensics, and of course hacking and the hacking culture! But beyond that, I do think cryptography is a lot of fun as well. My interests are pretty varied in this field allowing me interest to write in a lot of areas!"
