Bangkok Cyber Security Jobs

Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of Thailand. Situated on a river delta, the city grew rapidly during the 1960s through the 1980s from a sleepy trading post to the center for politics, the economy, education, and media in Thailand. Bangkok boasts a population of over 8 million and its boundaries extend far beyond the city proper into a sprawling swath of surrounding suburbs. Bangkok’s climate can be described matter-of-factly as hot and humid year-round, but if you can take the heat, it’s a city that offers a wealth of experiences and opportunities. And don’t worry, most modern buildings and apartments in Bangkok have air conditioning!

Cyber Security Jobs in Bangkok

The Asian investment boom of the 1980s and 1990s led many multinational corporations to locate their regional headquarters to Bangkok. Bangkok is a major regional financial and business center and many of Thailand’s major commercial banks and financial institutions are all headquartered in Bangkok along with many of the country’s largest companies. The city has also emerged as a regional center for the arts, fashion, and entertainment. Bangkok is also an international hub for transport and health care

The bulk of Bangkok’s economy centers around the wholesale and retail trades. Following close behind are finance, manufacturing (the auto industry is a big here), a booming services sector, and tourism. The Stock Exchange of Thailand is also based in Bangkok.

Bangkok also happens to be the center of the large Thai media industry. All national newspapers, broadcast media and major publishers are based here. In addition, an astounding number of Thai magazines are published in the capital of Bangkok. These include news magazines, lifestyle, entertainment, gossip and fashion-related publications. And if that weren’t enough, Bangkok is also a TV and film hub. Most of Thailand’s broadcast and film studios are headquartered in Bangkok.

It should then come as little surprise that with such a dense concentration of critical government and commercial industries with multi-billion dollar valuations, that the demand for IT professionals is really beginning to heat up in Bangkok. This is particularly pronounced with the critical lack of cyber security readiness in Thailand at large. The crisis is so pronounced that Thai news outlets have been shouting from the rafters about it! It’s only a matter of time before this crisis attains critical mass and the flood gates open up to the demand of cyber security jobs in Bangkok.

Living and Working in Bangkok

Bangkok’s reputation precedes itself and tends to be on the notorious side. It boasts a vibrant street life and famous (notorious) red-light districts. It also is the proud home of many Thai historic landmarks as well as several prominent Buddhist temples, noted for their breath-taking architecture. Bangkok has been voted the World’s Best City four consecutive years by Travel + Leisure magazine.

Getting around Bangkok is not for the impatient nor faint of heart. A haphazard cityscape, due to rapid growth and a poorly designed road system, makes for nightmarish traffic and congestion. Your best option for getting around Bangkok is to utilize public transport, which is taking up the slack when it comes to getting around with a fairly modern system of buses, rail, and even water taxis that run up and down the river.

Thailand has a long reputation of being hospitable to visitors and expats from all over the world. Obtaining a Thai work visa is generally a straightforward process and many times hiring firms are able to assist you with the process. If you’re a US citizen, the Embassy of Thailand has an informative visa page.
