Let’s Talk Community

Greetings to all the Cybrarians out there!

I would like to talk about our community and how to make it grow and flourish! I like to go through the 0P3N articles looking for good information, new viruses, malware, tracking apps, etc. Occasionally I come across an article that in my opinion just screams “I want attention!”. The one that comes to mind the 0P3N article was talking about job opportunities and how some of them are scams to get your Personal Identifiable Information (PII), the author “claimed” to have sent them a virus to get access and turned on their webcam to see what was described as a call center in India.

So why I believe this was an I want attention post, their hack was glossed over, in an “I’m better than you and won’t tell you what I used”. Also if it was a call center in India why would it have a webcam attached, don’t they have minimal equipment?  I’m not saying this post didn’t have good information about all the things that glitter are not gold. This community is only as strong as its weakest link, it doesn’t matter why you are here learning how systems work, personally moving forward and sharing information is how this community will grow. I’ve been a part of this community since 2015, not always active but I do enjoy this community and learning and improving my skills is something that is important to me. I would like to see this community continue to grow and users support each other. This being said, I don’t want anyone grabbing torches and pitchforks. I would say we need to coach the user on how to improve the community.

So Cybrarians! Let’s improve our skills and the community. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Black Hat, White Hat, Script Kiddie, Casual, Hardware, Software, Programmer or somewhere in-between. Cybrary’s success depends on its users.
